Ridges of a potato field

Putten sits on the edge of the Veluwe, where the woods give way to meadows and fields and the border lakes begin a little further on. It is a village with a strong community of its own. For snack bars, cafés and restaurants in Putten we cut fresh chips from potatoes grown on our own land in Zeewolde.

Where woods meet open country

Around Putten, woods, heathland, farmland and small hamlets alternate. On the Nuldernauw there is a beach that draws plenty of visitors in summer. The village itself has a pleasant centre with shops and places to eat, where residents run into each other.

Hospitality in Putten relies heavily on regulars. People come back because they know what they will get, and that calls for a product that behaves the same in the fryer week in, week out. Fresh chips from a single grower, cut from home-grown potatoes, are ideal for that.

What a good chipping potato does

Not every potato is suitable for chips. A good chipping potato is floury, high in dry matter and low in sugars. That makes the chips fluffy inside and gives an even colour outside, without turning dark too quickly. There is more explanation under which potato for chips.

Storage matters as well. Potatoes kept too cold convert starch into sugar, and then the chips brown too fast. If you keep whole potatoes in stock yourself, store them dark and cool, but not in the fridge. The page about storing potatoes explains how best to do that.

From across the Nuldernauw

Seen from Putten, our farm lies across the Nuldernauw, in the Zeewolde polder. We cut on Tuesday and Friday mornings and then drive out to our customers ourselves. Putten falls within our service area around Harderwijk.

We also come this way for businesses towards Amersfoort, such as in Nijkerk. Would you like fresh chips or whole Agria potatoes for your business in Putten? Call or message Thijs on 06 23972300 or Joost on 06 23055742.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my chips sometimes go too dark?

Often because of too much sugar in the potato, for example from cold storage, or because the frying temperature is too high. A suitable chipping potato and finishing at around 175 degrees prevent that.

How should I store whole potatoes in my business?

Dark, dry and cool, but not in the fridge. Below roughly six degrees potatoes start converting starch into sugar.
