Fresh chips for hospitality in Nijkerk

From Zeewolde you look straight across the border lakes to the Gelderland side, and that is where Nijkerk lies. The old town is one of our closest neighbours. For snack bars, restaurants and other hospitality businesses in Nijkerk we cut fresh chips from potatoes we grow ourselves on the other side.

Neighbours on either side of the water

Nijkerk and Zeewolde are linked by a bridge across the water. Where Zeewolde is a young polder town, Nijkerk has a long history, with a historic centre around the Grote Kerk and streets where old buildings and new shops stand side by side.

Around that centre and in the surrounding neighbourhoods there are snack bars, cafés and restaurants that draw most of their customers from the town itself. They are places where the owner often stands behind the counter and where a good local reputation is everything.

From the harvester to your fryer

From September we cut from the new Agria. What we lift goes into storage, so we can keep cutting from it through July. Only in August, the transition season, do we switch to the Frieslander for a few weeks. Why we move with the seasons like this is explained under the potato season.

After that it moves quickly. On Tuesday and Friday mornings the potatoes are scraped and cut, vacuum packed in 10 kg packs and loaded into the van. Because Nijkerk is so close, the distance from field to kitchen is short.
