Fresh chips in the vacuum sealer at Friet van Beus

As a fresh chips wholesaler, Friet van Beus supplies chips cut from potatoes grown in our own soil in Zeewolde. Not a frozen factory product, but freshly cut chips: peeled, cut, vacuum-packed and delivered to your premises by us. We work exclusively for businesses, mainly large-volume users: cafetarias, chip shops and snack bars, wholesalers and food trucks across the central Netherlands.

What are Friet van Beus fresh chips?

Fresh chips are chips cut from whole potatoes shortly before use. For us that means the potatoes come from our own fields, go through our peeling and cutting machine and are vacuum-packed straight afterwards. Nothing is added. No preservatives, no colour additives, no coating of oil. What you receive is pure potato, cut and ready to fry.

Our chips are not pre-fried either. That is a deliberate choice. Frozen chips have already had their first fry in the factory, whereas with fresh chips that step stays in your hands. You decide how long and at what temperature you blanch them, so you get the chips that suit your business: a crisp outside with a soft, floury centre. If you are weighing up the two, read the comparison in fresh or frozen chips.

Blanching them yourself gives the best return

Because our chips are not pre-fried, you do the blanching yourself. That is not an extra burden, it is exactly where the gain lies. Blanching them yourself gives the best return, both financially and in flavour. You do not pay for a frying step in a factory, and you blanch exactly the amount you expect to sell that day. At the same time you set the temperature and frying time yourself, so the chips get their best flavour and texture in your own fryer.

With a fixed routine this is perfectly manageable in any business: blanch a stock during the quiet hours and only finish the chips during the rush. How to go about it is explained under blanching chips. How to estimate the number of portions a bag yields is covered under the yield of fresh chips.

Cut on Tuesdays and Fridays

We cut twice a week, on Tuesday morning and Friday morning. As soon as the 10 kg bags are filled and sealed, we load up and our regular drivers deliver the chips. There is no distribution centre or middleman between our cutting machine and your cold store. So you always know when your chips were cut and who is bringing them.

Vacuum packing protects the cut potato from oxygen, so the chips discolour less quickly. Keep the sealed bags chilled and only open a bag when you are ready to fry. That way you always work with a fresh batch during the rush. You will find practical tips for your cold store under storing fresh chips.

Our own crops, the same quality all year round

A chips wholesaler that buys its potatoes from a changing mix of growers receives batches of changing quality. We cut only potatoes from our own farm. Since 1994 we have grown mainly potatoes in Zeewolde, alongside sugar beet, onions and winter wheat. We know our fields and how each season has gone. As a result there is hardly any difference through the year in the chips you receive from us.

From September to July we cut Agria, a floury variety with yellow flesh that produces lovely golden chips. Only in August, the transition season, do we use Frieslander, a transition potato that crisps quickly and keeps well. So all year round you get fresh chips from a variety that is at its best at that moment. Read more about the variety on our page about Agria potatoes.

Who are our fresh chips for?

Friet van Beus supplies businesses only. It started in 2016 with a local cafetaria that was thoroughly tired of peeling and cutting potatoes itself. A peeling and cutting machine arrived at the farm, and many catering businesses in the area followed. Today we mainly supply cafetarias, chip shops and snack bars that fry a lot of chips every week, wholesalers who resell, and food trucks and events. Restaurants fry our chips too. What they share: they want to buy fresh chips from one regular grower, without running a peeling machine themselves.

Our regular drivers deliver fresh chips across the central Netherlands, and whole potatoes can be delivered nationwide. You can check whether your business is on our route on the service area page. Clear answers

Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about fresh chips.

Why is it better to blanch the chips myself?

Blanching them yourself gives the best return, both financially and in flavour. You do not pay for a frying step in a factory, you only blanch what you expect to sell and you tailor the temperature and frying time to your own fryer.

Are your fresh chips pre-fried?

No. Our chips are freshly cut and not pre-fried. You blanch and finish them yourself, so you can tailor the frying method to your fryer and your guests.

Is anything added to the chips?

No, nothing is added. No preservatives and no other additives. The chips consist of potato only and are vacuum-packed to keep them fresh.

On which days are the chips cut and delivered?

We cut on Tuesday and Friday mornings and then deliver the chips ourselves. Which day suits your business best is something we agree together.

How do you differ from an ordinary chips wholesaler?

An ordinary wholesaler often sells frozen chips from large factories. We grow the potatoes, cut them and deliver them ourselves. That gives you one point of contact, from the field right into your kitchen.

Can I buy fresh chips from you as a private individual?

Friet van Beus supplies businesses only, such as cafetarias, chip shops, wholesalers and food trucks. Collection by appointment is possible if needed.
